Why is it important to do business God's way?
As Christian entrepreneurs, we must recognize that our work matters—not just for this life but for eternity. In 1 Corinthians 3:12-15, Paul reminds us that our work will be tested by fire at the Bema Seat judgment. Only what is built on the foundation of Christ and done for God’s glory will endure. This means even though we have our salvation as Christians, how we create, build, and operate our businesses plays a crucial role in the work that will also stand the test of eternity.
Work isn’t just something you do to earn a paycheck; it’s part of your divine design. In Genesis 2:15, God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to “work it and keep it.” Work is not a punishment—it’s a calling. For many of us, that calling is entrepreneurship, a unique opportunity to glorify God through the gifts, talents, and ideas He has entrusted to us.
When we approach business with God at the center, it becomes an extension of the Great Commission. Every product, service, or interaction becomes a chance to shine God’s light, expand His Kingdom, and share the gospel in ways that impact lives. By doing business God’s way, we you only steward His resources wisely but also partner with Him in eternal Kingdom work.
So, how do you actually do business God’s way? Here are three foundational tips to get you started.
1. Understanding Your Spiritual & Motivational Gifts
Understanding Spiritual Gifts vs Motivational Gifts
It’s important to know that there are 3 categories of gifts talked about in the bible; ministry gifts, spiritual gifts (also known as charismatic gifts or manifestation gifts), and motivational gifts (also known as gifts of grace).
As a Dual Citizen, you have at least 1 motivational spiritual gift. Motivational gifts, found in 1 Corinthians 12: 3-8, are what fuels us to do God’s work and live out our lives like Jesus in all aspects of our life. These are the gifts most applicable to running our businesses as Christian entrepreneurs working towards the great commission. Motivational gifts are how we relate to those we are similar or different to. When you understand all motivational gifts, plus your own, you’ll have a better understanding of how each person is wired to work in certain circumstances or environments. Understanding all motivational gifts also helps relationships thrive.
All spiritual gifts (ministry, spiritual, motivational) are unique abilities the Holy Spirit gives (according to the Spirit’s will and purposes | 1 Corinthians 12:11) to believers, empowering them to serve God and others effectively. No one person has all the gifts, and each gift is important and valuable. All categories of spiritual gifts can be found in Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, 28-30; Ephesians 4:11; and 1 Peter 4:9-11. The diversity of gifts reflects the diversity within the body of Christ, and each gift complements the others to build a strong, unified Church. Spiritual gifts are essential for the growth and improvement of the Church and can be wonderfully integrated into your business practices.
The 15 Spiritual Gifts vs Motivational Gifts
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” —1 Peter 4:10
God has uniquely gifted each of us with talents, abilities, and spiritual gifts that are meant to serve His purposes.
1. Wisdom
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:8 (ESV)
The gift of wisdom allows someone to apply knowledge and insight in practical ways, offering God-centered solutions to complex issues. This gift enables entrepreneurs to make decisions that align with God’s will and serve the greater good.
2. Knowledge

The gift of knowledge is a deep understanding of God’s truth and mysteries, often revealed through Scripture or by the Holy Spirit. This gift helps entrepreneurs discern God’s plan and incorporate His wisdom into their business strategies.
3. Faith

Faith goes beyond saving faith; it’s an extraordinary trust in God’s promises, even in the face of challenges. Entrepreneurs with this gift inspire others to believe in God’s ability to accomplish what seems impossible.
4. Healing

The gift of healing is the supernatural ability to restore health and wholeness through God’s power. While typically associated with physical healing, it can also include emotional and spiritual healing, creating a nurturing environment for team members and clients.

9. Interpretation of Tongues
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:10 (ESV)
This gift enables someone to interpret the meaning of messages spoken in tongues, ensuring they edify the church. It demonstrates God’s desire for clarity and understanding.
10. Serving (Helps)

The gift of mercy involves compassion for the hurting, coupled with a desire to alleviate suffering. Entrepreneurs with this gift create empathetic workplace cultures and prioritize service to others.
Whether you’re a natural leader, a creative problem-solver, or an encourager, these gifts are tools God has given you to glorify Him in your business.
Understanding your spiritual gifts helps you focus on the areas where God has equipped you to excel. It’s the foundation for building a business that honors Him. Take time to pray, reflect, and seek wise counsel to identify your gifts. Consider taking a spiritual gifts assessment or asking trusted friends and mentors what they see in you.
However, we think one of the best ways to discover your spiritual gift is through serving in ministry. Find the place within your church where you truly enjoy serving. That’s usually how you can tell what your spiritual gift may be.
When you lean into your God-given strengths, you align your work with His will, which brings clarity, purpose, and impact to your business.
2. Co-partnering with The Holy Spirit
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” —John 14:26
Running a business can feel overwhelming, but the good news is you don’t have to do it alone. The Holy Spirit is your divine business partner, ready to guide, teach, and empower you in every decision you make.
When you co-partner with the Holy Spirit, you invite God’s wisdom and direction into your daily operations. This might look like starting each day with prayer, seeking His guidance before major decisions, or asking for discernment in difficult situations.
Listening to the Holy Spirit also means being sensitive to His nudges—whether that’s reaching out to a struggling client, pivoting your business model, or stepping out in faith for a new business opportunity. By relying on the Spirit, you align your business with God’s timing and His perfect plan.
3. Apply Scripture to Strategy
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” —2 Timothy 3:16
The Bible isn’t just a spiritual guide; it’s also a powerful business manual. Scripture provides timeless principles for leadership, stewardship, integrity, and more—all of which are essential for building a God-honoring business.
Start by incorporating Bible study into your work routine. Seek out passages that address topics like honesty (Proverbs 11:1), diligence (Proverbs 22:29), and servant leadership (Mark 10:43-45). Then, ask yourself how these principles apply to your business practices.
For example, Proverbs 11:14 teaches the importance of wise counsel. This could mean forming a board of advisors or seeking mentorship from seasoned Christian entrepreneurs. Applying scripture to your business not only helps you make God-centered decisions but also positions your business as a reflection of His character.
